UW In First After Day One At Causeway Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. β The Washington women's golf team sit atop the team leaderboard after the first day of play at The Causeway Invitational, with both Kennedy Knox and Camille Boyd among the top six individually.

Due to multiple delays due to rain and lightning, teams were only able to complete a portion of the scheduled two rounds at Del Paso Country Club, as all 13 teams completed round one and were no more than three holes into their second round before darkness fell. They'll try to play the remainder of the second round as the tournament will be shortened to 36 holes

Washington finished the first round with a score of 292, four strokes over par, three strokes ahead of second-place BYU and four in front of California.

"It was a team effort today," said UW head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "It took almost nine and a half hours to play 18. I'm super proud of their toughness in really difficult conditions β cold, wet and windy.

"It's always challenging when you have to start and stop multiple times," Mulflur continued. "We're looking forward to a tough and fun day tomorrow."

Boyd, at 1-under overall, enters Tuesday in a tie for second place. In her first round, she carded four birdies on the back nine and five overall for a 1-under 71. Boyd completed just one hole in the second round.

Knox scored an even-par 72 in her first round and was even through two holes in the second, tying her for sixth place overall. She notched three birdies and three bogies in round one.

UW's Stefanie Deng carded a 1-over 73 in the opening round, but was 2-over through three holes in her second, tying her for 21st place at the end of play.

Brittany Kwon, with a 4-over 76 in the first round and even through two in the second is tie for 25th place, while Winnie Ng carded an 80 in the opener and was even through three in the second, tying her for 54th.

The teams will try to play the remainder of round two Tuesday morning.
