Athlete Ally Founder Hudson Taylor Visits Washington Coaches and Staff

SEATTLE – Athlete Ally founder Hudson Taylor visited the University of Washington athletic department this month to discuss LGBTQ+ allyship and advocacy. Over 90 coaches and staff from the department were in attendance.
The primary focus was educating coaches and staff on creating inclusive spaces for UW student-athletes. Taylor spoke with the Husky Pride student-athlete affinity group and Queer Collective staff affinity group specifically. He also met with Associate Athletic Director / Director of Medical Services Mike Dillon and Associate Athletic Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Sheridan Blanford to discuss health, wellness, access and support for LGBTQ+ student-athletes.
The all-staff session was part of the department's 3L Series (Listen, Learn, Lead) which was developed in September 2021. Upcoming staff sessions for the 2022-23 year are How to Create a Culture of Anti-Racism, Bias & Microaggressions and Real World/Life Case Studies.
