Thomason’s Brace Sends Off Seniors With Apple Cup Victory
November 03, 2023 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – For the second year in a row, the Washington Huskies owned the Boeing Apple Cup matchup with Washington State as Tatum Thomason's brace lifted the Dawgs to a 2-0 victory Friday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The Huskies played in front of a near sellout crowd on Montlake, with the night's attendance of 2,892 standing as the second-highest in the history of the program.
The victory runs the Huskies' unbeaten streak to seven matches to end the campaign, completing the regular season with a 9-5-5 record, including 4-4-3 in Pac-12 play.
With her brace, Thomason clinched the team-lead in goals, scoring three times over the last three matches to finish with six for the season.
The sophomore winger put the Dawgs in front in the 15th minute, hitting Jace Holmes' looping service first time with her right, chipping Cougar keeper Nadia Cooper and hitting the side netting.
Washington kept up the pressure for the rest of the half and created a few more half chances, but hit the halftime break leading 1-0.
Just after the restart, the Arizona native doubled the Husky lead in the 50th minute as Anna Menti's ball across the box found its way all the way through before Thomason pumped it in from point blank range.
With a two-goal lead in hand, the Huskies absorbed the Cougar attack the rest of the way, salting away the remaining minutes to lock up the Apple Cup win.
