Branson, Juarez Tabbed Pac-12 Players Of The Week
October 16, 2023 | Women's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO β Each playing a pivotal role in Washington's 1-1 draw at No. 2 Stanford on Saturday, Kelsey Branson and Olivia Juarez have been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
Β
The result on The Farm was a monumental one for the Huskies, snapping a 19-match losing streak to Stanford and giving UW its first point against the Cardinal since 2004.
Β
Branson bagged the opening goal in the matchup, putting the Huskies ahead just over five minutes into the contest with a sumptuous swing with her right. From there, the San Diego native was a key piece in a tenacious defensive effort to keep the Cardinal's comeback attempt at bay and secure the draw.
Β
It is the second Pac-12 weekly award for Branson, who was also selected Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winner in UW's road victory over Washington State in 2022. That result was also historic, giving the Huskies their first win in Pullman since 1996.
Β
Meanwhile, Juarez reels in the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week award for the first time in her career. The junior shot stopper registered a career-high 12 saves against the Cardinal, tied for the seventh most in a single match in program-history.
Β
In addition to posting a career-high in saves and setting up the UW counter with her distribution, Juarez organized the Husky back line with aplomb as the UW defense fended off 31 shots on the night.
