Huskies Open Regional with 9-2 Win

SEATTLE – The Washington Huskies opened postseason play with a 9-2 win over Lehigh on Friday night at Husky Softball Stadium.
Gabbie Plain picked up her 19th win of the season after tossing 2.2 innings in relief. The fifth year senior had six strikeouts, while allowing only two hits with no walks.
The Huskies struck first on a one-out home run by Jenn Cummings in the third inning for the 1-0 advantage.
The fifth inning saw seven combined runs by both teams. Lehigh took its first lead of the game on two run earned runs off of Husky errors. For the Huskies, Kinsey Fiedler leadoff with a home run to ties the game at two. With two outs, Washington did most of its damage, plating four more runs on a three-run homer by Jadelyn Allchin and an RBI single from SilentRain Espinoza to take the 6-2 lead.
Washington added three insurance runs on the three-run homer by Pac-12 Player of the Year Baylee Klingler to bring the score to its eventual final of 9-2.
The Huskies will face the No. 2-seed Texas at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will air on ESPN. Texas won its game over Weber State 6-0 on Friday afternoon.
