Simpson 3-Run Blast Highlights 7-1 Husky Win Over Utah Valley

The Huskies hit the field at home tonight with no rest following a weekend series at Cal. In their all-white uniforms with the sun peaking through overcast skies, they welcomed the 12-20 Utah Valley Wolverines.
BOTTOM OF 2
Coby Morales drilled a single to right field to start the inning. AJ Guerrero drew a full count walk moving Morales into scoring position. Colby Wallace laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to advance the runners and then a little help from the pitcher via a balk brought in the first run of the game for the Huskies. Cam Clayton stepped up next and grounded out to third earning an RBI as Guerrero crossed the plate to make it a 2-0 ballgame.Β
TOP OF 3
A one-out double to left center followed by a double down the left field line cut the score in half for Utah Valley.
BOTTOM OF 3
With two outs on the board, Christian Dicochea ripped a base hit shot to left. Will Simpson followed with a double to right center scoring Dicochea. Morales stepped in the box next and sent a single through the right side that scored Simpson from second to give the Huskies a 4-1 lead.
BOTTOM OF 7
McKay Barney drew a one-out walk and subsequently stole second. Josh Urps walked as well to put two on for Husky home run leader Will Simpson. With a 1-1 count, Simpson left zero doubt as he belted one deep over the left field fence opening the game up to what would be a final score of 7-1.
Starter Stu Flesland III went 4 innings, giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Jack Enger gets the win and moves to 3-0 after pitching 1 inning with no runs, no hits, a walk, and a strikeout.
