Washington Falls to No. 23 Auburn
December 21, 2022 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE (AP) – A 58 percent shooting clip in the second half was not enough for Washington to slow No. 23 Auburn from taking a 84-61 win on Wednesday night.
Keion Brooks Jr. led Washington (9-4) with 15 points and Koren Johnson scored 12. Braxton Meah scored eight points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
"I would have loved to be 10-3. We're 9-4. We've just got to get better," Head Coach Mike Hopkins remarked Wednesday. "We've been a resilient group all year and we'll bounce back."
8,502 fans packed Alaska Airlines Arena, among them were former Husky greats Isaiah Thomas, Terrence Ross and David Crisp.
Jaylin Williams and Johni Broome each scored 18 for Auburn, which shot 21 of 29 (72.4%) in the second half and led by as many as 27.
Washington used a late spurt to pull within 31-23 at halftime, but could not overcome first half struggles to come back. The Huskies got within 39-33 before the Tigers pulled away.
Following an extended period in between games UW will embark on the remainder of their Pac-12 slate, hosting USC on Dec. 30 and UCLA on Jan. 1.
