Kelsey Branson Tabbed Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week
November 07, 2022 | Women's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO β Two days after leading the Huskies to their first win in Pullman since 1996, true freshman Kelsey Branson has been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Β
The Cathedral Catholic High School product becomes the second Husky this season to earn a Pac-12 Weekly Award, joining Shae Holmes, who pulled down defensive player of the week honors earlier in the season.
Β
Branson led the charge in the Dawgs' 3-2 comeback victory over the Cougars in the Boeing Apple Cup Series matchup, scoring the game-winner in the 70th minute. The San Diego native also dished out an assist on Summer Yates' goal that tied the match at 2-2.
Β
Beating the WSU offside trap, Branson brought down Elena Palacios' bending cross with her chest. The rookie then swung with her left and sent a shot to the far post, sneaking it inside the post and into the side netting to give UW the Apple Cup victory.
Β
The goal was Branson's fifth of her freshman campaign, four of which have come during Pac-12 play. She capped the regular season with 14 total points, tied for the third most on the team.
