Millsaps Goal Not Enough As Huskies Fall To Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – Washington fell to Colorado 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at Prentup Field. The Huskies (2-5-2, 0-1-1 Pac-12) fought through the full 90 minutes but couldn't equalize in the second half against the Buffaloes (6-3-1, 1-0-1 Pac-12).
Colorado jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the 7th minute on a corner kick. Hannah Shart headed in Shanade Hopcroft's service to open the scoring.
UW quickly responded when Vanessa Millsaps tied up the contest at 1-1 in the 19th minute. Ameera Hussen corralled the ball and fed Millsaps at the top of the box, who delivered a beautiful strike over the goalkeeper's reach. Millsaps' goal was her second of the campaign.
The match wouldn't be tied for long as CU took back the lead over ten minutes later, after a UW handball in the box gave the Buffs a penalty and a 2-1 lead.
It looked as if UW would equalize in the late stages, but Olivia Van der Jagt was called offside after finding the back of the net in the 88th minute.
Washington had 10 total shots in the match with Millsaps leading the way with three for UW, her goal was the lone shot on goal for the Huskies during the contest. Olivia Sekany had two saves on the day.
The Huskies continue their road trip, heading to Salt Lake City to face Utah on Sunday. The match is set to kickoff at 11 a.m. and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
