Huskies Tie Against Long Beach State
September 11, 2021 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - The Washington women's soccer team tied 1-1 in their match against Long Beach State on Saturday. The Huskies (1-4-1) had a 1-0 lead for most of the game thanks to a goal from Vanessa Millsaps in minute 32. However, the Dawgs couldn't close out the game due to a goal from LBSU's Lenna Silano with only two minutes remaining in the contest.ย
ย
The Huskies were able to contain Long Beach State (3-2-1) for most of the game by remaining disciplined on defense while sending long balls to get shots on goal. The Beach's goal came when they were able to take multiple shots that put UW on their heels. From there they capitalized to tie the game.ย
ย
Head coach, Nicole Van Dyke, was still impressed with her team's efforts and saw individuals performing well, but with the energy dipping in the second half, it gave LBSU more options.ย
ย
"We need to find opportunities where we can extend that first half through the second," Van Dyke said. "Some people played really well today, and I don't want to take that away from them. At this point I am just disappointed for the girls, because they deserve more than that".ย
ย
The Huskies, despite a strong defensive effort, were not able to close out the game and seal the win. In the second half, Washington also struggled to maintain possession of the ball and continue toย get shots on goal.ย ย

Next up, Washington goes on the road to face Seattle University on Thursday, September 16.ย
