Huskies Lead All Game Long In Resounding 3-0 Win

MATTHEWS, N.C. – The fastest NCAA Tournament goal in Washington Husky history was just the start as the Huskies beat Liberty 3-0 in the first round. Ameera Hussen started the scoring at 1:07, Washington's fastest goal since 2015, as the Huskies led for over 88 minutes.

This was Washington's biggest margin of victory in an NCAA Tournament game since 2010, when the Huskies beat Oklahoma 4-0. Washington has now advanced to the second round in back-to-back years, the first time the Huskies have done so since 2009 and 2010.

Karlee Stueckle and Olivia Van der Jagt also had goals, both coming off long passes. Mary Johnston assisted on Stueckle's goal, while Kaylene Pang had the assist off a set piece on Van der Jagt's.

Washington allowed just seven shots all game, the fewest shots allowed in an NCAA Tournament game since the Huskies gave up just three to Rider in 2014. Olivia Sekany and Caeley Goldstein combined to shutout the Flames, with Sekany playing 81 minutes. Sekany made one save, while Goldstein made two in her nine minutes.

The Huskies had their biggest NCAA Tournament halftime lead since 2010, scoring twice in the first 45 and holding Liberty to just two total shots. Three of the seven total shots Washington's allowed would come in the game's final five minutes, with the margin already 3-0 in Washington's favor. In all, the Huskies held a 14-7 shot advantage and gave up on two corners all game long.

		SCORING
2' \| Hussen scored the fastest goal by the Huskies since 2015, firing home a hard, low shot after a cross rebounded to her at the top of the box. 41' \| Johnston launched a long pass, with Stueckle racing ahead to get on the end of it in the box. With the keeper rushing forward, Stueckle had just enough time to touch the ball high in the air, bouncing down into the back of the net as the two collided. 52' \| It was another long pass that extended Washington's lead. Pang sent in a free kick from near the center line that floated toward the back post. Van der Jagt beat everyone in the air and headed a laser across the face of goal for a 3-0 lead.

		NOTES
Hussen's goal was the fastest by a Husky since Shannon Simon scored 26 seconds into a game in 2015. In the last four games, Hussen has two goals and an assist. Sekany extended her career-long shutout streak to 469 minutes. Stueckle's goal gave her a new career high in points with five. Van der Jagt has scored two goals in the last three games. Pang's assist was the first helper of her career.
