Game One Goes Against Huskies 6-1
April 23, 2021 | Softball
LOS ANGELES – The first game of a top-five series matchup went against the #4 Washington Huskies, who fell 6-1 to the #2 UCLA Bruins Friday night. The game turned on a two-out home run by UCLA that made it 3-0 in the third inning.
The loss snapped Washington's ten-game Pac-12 winning streak and put Washington's Pac-12 record at 12-3. Washington is 34-7 overall on the season.
Gabbie Plain had her program-record undefeated start come to a close, taking her first loss of the year to go to 23-1. Plain was the only pitcher in the nation with 20+ wins and no losses, with only one other pitcher recording at least 15 wins without a loss. Plain had also gone ten straight games without issuing multiple walks before walking three batters today.
Pat Moore threw the final three innings, retiring the first six batters she faced in her longest outing of 2021. This was just the second time a Pac-12 opponent has ever scored against Moore: the other came in 2018, when Washington scored three runs on Moore while she was a freshman at DePaul.
Game two and three of the series will be tomorrow, with game three not counting in the standings as a conference game. Both of those games will air on the Pac-12 Network, with the first game beginning at 4:00 pm.
