SEATTLE - Husky men's tennis is off to San Diego this week for the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Championships, where they will get a big test in the quarterfinal round against the top-seeded Stanford Cardinal. The tourney is being held this season at the Barnes Tennis Center from Saturday through Monday. The Huskies and Cardinal will go at it on Saturday, Apr. 24, at 3 p.m.
Washington (10-10) just wrapped up the regular season last week against Stanford (9-4) with the Cardinal earning a 7-0 win, so the Dawgs will have their work cut out for them to upset the Pac-12 regular season champs. Stanford is ranked 23rd in the latest ITA computer rankings and 19th in the coaches poll. For Stanford, Arthur Fery is ranked 53rd in singles and Axel Geller is 93rd.
In the recent match, the Huskies did have several close matches, with Clement Chidekh falling to Geller 6-3, 7-6 at the No. 1 spot, and Ewen Lumsden falling in a third set, 7-5, to Fery at No. 2. Jack Pulliam also went to a third set super-tiebreak at No. 5 and a couple more 7-5 sets went Stanford's way.
If the Huskies keep winning, they will play each day at 3 p.m. Sunday the semifinals will both start at 3, and Monday's final will also be at 3 live on Pac-12 Networks.
