Huskies Can't Break Seal In 2-0 Loss

SAN DIEGO – A furious offensive attack by the #4 Washington Huskies couldn't get them the win today as the Huskies fell 2-0 at San Diego State. Washington had 18 shots, including 16 shots in the second half alone, but took its second loss of 2021. Washington is 8-2-0 now on the year and 5-2-0 in Pac-12 play.

It was a defensive battle early on: neither team allowed a shot in the first 15 minutes of play, with no shots on goal until the 25^th minute. There were only six total shots in the first half of the game, though Washington had a number of dangerous set-piece entries from Ostrem that just missed Husky heads.

The Huskies took over in the second half as they tried to claw back from a 2-0 deficit. Washington had five shots between the 50^th and 60^th minute, all of them dangerous, with a sixth wiped away due to an offside call.

That was the start of a furious offensive push all half long, though Washington just couldn't break the seal and get on the scoreboard. San Diego State did not have a shot after the 55^th minute: meanwhile, the Huskies had 15 after that point. That included five in the final ten minutes.

The shot stayed just inside the left corner of the net for the game's first goal. 37' \| San Diego State took a 2-0 lead on the counterattack, sneaking a ball through the feet of a defender and to the far corner across the box.

		NOTES
Washington has trailed at the half just twice now, both times against San Diego State. The Huskies had not faced a two-goal deficit since September 12, 2019, a span of 25 games. The Huskies had trailed for 63 total minutes entering today. The loss snapped Washington's seven-game winning streak against San Diego State.
