Dawgs Keep Rolling, Shutout Utah 1-0
March 26, 2021 | Women's Soccer
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The #18 Washington Huskies won 1-0 in the hail and wind against the Utah Utes on the strength of a Summer Yates goal. That win moves the Huskies to 7-1-2, matching the program record for fewest defeats through a season's first ten games, also accomplished in 2000, 2004, and 2008. The Huskies have also allowed just five goals through ten games, matching the program record set in 2001.
For the seventh time this season, the Huskies scored first, taking the lead in the 35th minute after a long period of extended pressure on the goal. Washington kept the pressure up all game long and never gave Utah a chance to breathe, securing the Huskies' fifth shutout of the season.
Utah's only dangerous scoring chance against the Huskies came in the 87th minute off a free kick. Olivia Sekany made the best of her four saves there, diving to knock the ball off the goal line before the Husky defense walled up and fought for the clearance.
Washington allowed only four total shots all game long, the fourth time this year the Huskies have allowed fewer than five shots in a game. The four shots on goal against the Huskies was actually the second-most allowed all season: Washington has a 70-25 shots on goal advantage through ten games.
