Two Klingler Homers Help Huskies Win 6-5

LAS VEGAS – The #2 Washington Huskies won a dramatic one in their second game Friday, beating Dixie State 6-5 on a walkoff walk from SilentRain Espinoza. Washington trailed late twice, only for homers from Baylee Klingler to change the game each time.

It was a heart-pumping finish as the Huskies trailed by two runs with two outs in the seventh, only for Klingler's second homer of the day to tie the game. A hit by pitch and back-to-back walks would bring in the winning run for the Huskies, who put five straight runners on base after the second out in the seventh.

This was Klingler's second career multi-homer game. The junior's first homer gave Washington a 2-1 lead headed to the seventh, then her second home tied the game back up at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh with two outs.

		SCORING
Third Inning: Dixie State struck first, giving Washington's its first deficit of the year on a run-scoring wild pitch. Sixth Inning: After a leadoff single from Bates, Klingler went opposite field for her second home run in as many games, making it 2-1. SilentRain Espinoza would add a run with a sacrifice fly. Seventh Inning: Dixie State took back the lead, scoring one on a double to left-center before back-to-back bases-loaded walks made it 4-3. Dixie State added another run, making it 5-3, on what was originally ruled a double play, only to be reversed. Seventh Inning: Klingler did it again in the clutch, with her two-run, two-out homer tying the game back up at 5-5. Espinoza would draw the walk with the bases loaded to win the game.

		NOTES
Klingler (2x4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI) now has extra-base hits in six consecutive games and nine of her last ten, stretching back to 2020. Klingler also had a two-homer day last year, on February 22 against Oklahoma. Bates (2x3, 2 R, BB) has hit .439 in the leadoff spot in her career. The only Husky to ever hit better in their career in the leadoff spot is Sami Reynolds, who holds a .455 batting average in that spot. Bates became the 15^th Husky ever with 250 career hits and the first to reach that mark since Taylor Van Zee. Bates' errorless streak came to a close after 30 games. Her last error before today was May 3, 2019. In her last 10 innings, Lynch (3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 6 K) has 17 strikeouts.

Washington will play another two games tomorrow, facing off with Southern Utah at 10:00 am and tournament host UNLV at 3:00 pm. Both those games will be shown live via the UNLV live stream.
