LAS VEGAS – The bats were out in force as the #2 Washington Huskies defeated the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 19-13 in their first game Saturday. Washington scored its most runs since a 19-run game against Santa Clara last season, twice scoring five or more runs in a single frame.

Madison Huskey had her first career multi-homer game as one of five Huskies to go deep on the day. Seven Huskies drove in multiple runs, led by Huskey's four-RBI day. SilentRain Espinoza had four hits, including a home run. Ari Quiñones came off the bench and had a perfect day, going 1-for-1 with a two-run double and a hit-by-pitch.

Washington last scored more than 19 runs in 2016, when it beat Central Michigan 23-0. The six home runs today by Washington were its most since a program-record nine in 2011. Washington scored in all but one inning and scored multiple runs in five of seven innings. This was the second-highest combined score in Washington history, behind only a 21-17 loss to Arizona on May 10, 2003.

		SCORING
Second Inning: Espinoza's first home run of the year put the Huskies up 2-0. The junior ripped a liner that quickly found its way over the right-center wall. It was Washington's sixth home run of the season. Second Inning: Southern Utah responded in the bottom half, scoring six runs, all coming in bases-loaded situations. Third Inning: Morganne Flores hit an absolute moonshot, blasting a homerun well over the centerfield wall deep into the UNLV parking lot to make it 6-3. Unfortunately, Southern Utah had another response, this time scoring twice on a double to make it 8-3. Fourth Inning: The first three batters of the inning all reached, with Jadelyn Allchin's three-run blast cutting the deficit to just two runs. Just a few batters later, it would be Sami Reynolds' home run that put the Huskies back on top, driving in three more runs. It was Washington's highest-scoring inning since an eight-run sixth against Nebraska on February 22, 2020. Fifth Inning: It was Huskey's turn to get in on the action, starting the fifth with a solo shot down the leftfield line. Later in the inning, Sis Bates would have a bases-clearing, three-run double, then come around to score on a Flores groundout, making it 14-8. Fifth Inning: The seesaw game continued as Southern Utah hit two homers in the bottom half to make it a one-run game. Sixth Inning: The runs just kept coming: Quiñones laced an RBI double, with a throwing error allowing another run to score and make it 16-13. Seventh Inning: Huskey's second homer put an end to the scoring. Three runs would score on the junior's homer to make it 19-13.

Espinoza (4x5, 3 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) has her first back-to-back multi-RBI games of her career. This was Espinoza's second career game with multiple extra-base hits. She had a two-homer day against Santa Clara on March 6, 2020. All three of Allchin's (1x3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI) career home runs have been three-run shots. In 50 games batting third, Reynolds (1x4, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB) has 20 extra-base hits and 43 RBI. This was Huskey's (3x4, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI) fourth career game with multiple hits and a home run. Bates (1x4, 2 R, 2B, 3 RBI) tied Rosie Leutzinger for eighth in Washington history in doubles with her 44^th. She also moved into a tie with Tami Storseth for eighth in program history in runs scored. Since going 0-for-3 against Northwestern last year, Baylee Klingler (1x3, 2 R, 2 BB) is hitting .615 with 10 runs, five doubles, five homers, and 20 RBI. In her last four appearances, Gabbie Plain (2.2 IP, 1 H, 3 K) has allowed zero runs and struck out 23 in 13.2 innings of work.

Washington will have just one game tomorrow, facing off with Dixie State at 9:00 am.
