No. 2 Huskies Battle Stanford To Scoreless Draw
October 31, 2021 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE -- It was the defensive battle of epic proportions on Sunday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium. After 110 minutes of play, the No. 2 Washington men's soccer team and Stanford battled to a 0-0ย draw, with the two sides combining for just two total shots on goal.ย
It was a picture-perfect day in Seattle, with the temperatures around 60 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. The Huskies honored their nine graduating seniors before the match, celebrating the careers of Andrew Morrison, Kendall Burks, Ryan Sailor, Achille Robin, Gio Miglietti, Dylan Teves, Charlie Ostrem, Ryan Crowley and Lucas Meek.
Once the match got underway,ย two twoย talented sides felt each other out and searchedย for opportunities. After 45 minutes of play, UW held a 7-3 advantage in shots, with Lucas Meek putting an attempt on frame that was saved. Dylan Teves created the chance by running up the left side and serving in a low cross. Meek had to shift to his right to get a foot on the ball, and was ultimately unable to put enough juice on the shot to get by the Stanford keeper.ย
The second half saw the Huskies once again out-shoot the Cardinal, but the home side was unable to put anything on frame. Meek had another chance making a run towards net, but put his shot just high over the bar.ย
90 minutes wasn't enough and the two teams went into golden goal overtime. In the two 10 minute periods, each team managedย just one shot and two corners, with no chances on net. The game ended as a 0-0 draw.ย
After Thursday's match against California was ruled a no contest, UW finishes theย weekend earning one point in Pac-12 play. The Huskies will make the trip to southern California next week for road matches against San Diego State and UCLA.ย
