Fall Tournament No. 3: Fighting Irish Classic
October 02, 2021 | Men's Golf
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Washington returns to the Midwest for a second-consecutive week as they travel to South Bend, Indiana to compete at the Fighting Irish Classic at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of Notre Dame.
The Huskies, No. 22 in the Golf Channel's preseason top-30, have another chance to test themselves against a power-packed field.
"We are looking forward to playing another championship golf course against a really good field," UW coach Alan Murray said. "We have had a really intense run with this being our third tournament in a row, but I believe our guys are really close to putting together another strong tournament."
The Huskies are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Windon Memorial in Glencoe, Ill. and a tie for first at the Husky Invitational that they hosted at Gold Mountain in Bremerton.
"I don't think the scores at the Windon accurately reflected how well we played, but the game is about getting the ball in the hole in the fewest strokes possible and that is really the thing we have to get better at. If we can have a little more of that ruthless streak, then I think we are an extremely strong outfit," Murray said. "We look forward to trying to do that this week."
Murray will trot out the same lineup he unveiled for the Husky Invitational. Senior RJ Manke, coming off back-to-back second-place finishes, will anchor the Husky five, followed by Noah Woolsey, Teddy Lin, Petr Hruby and Taehoon Song. Freshman Aidan O'Hagan will compete as an individual.
Besides Washington, also in the field are: Boston College, Colorado, Georgia Southern, Iowa, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Rutgers, Utah and Washington State.
The field will play 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 4 at the Par 70, 7,023-yard track near the campus of Notre Dame and play a final 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
