Huskies Come Home For Pac-12 Play
March 09, 2020 | Softball
SEATTLE - After five weeks on the road, the #2 Washington Huskies will start their home season this weekend. Washington hosts the U.S. National Team for the first time in program history this Thursday, March 12. After that, it'll be the beginning of conference play: the Huskies will host Utah for a three-game series this weekend as Washington begins its defense of its 2019 Pac-12 championship.
This year, Washington has a new clear bag policy that will apply at Husky Softball Stadium. More information on the policy is available online.
Washington is 23-2 after their non-conference schedule, with a seven-game win streak entering this weekend. Washington has won at least 20 non-conference games every season in program history, a streak of 28 years.
The Huskies have won their home opener for 16 consecutive years. Only three times in program history has Washington lost its home opener: 1995, 1999, and 2003. Last year, Washington won its home opener over Ohio State at the Husky Classic 3-0.

FROSH FROSH B'GOSH | |
| Kelley Lynch enters Pac-12 play with eight home runs and 13 extra-base hits. Only three Huskies have ever had more extra-base hits before Pac-12 play: Kylee Lahners (14, 2012), Kristen Rivera (17, 2002), and Jaime Clark (28, 2000). Lynch's eight homers are already the most by a freshman since Lahners hit 11 in all of 2012. Lynch is one of four UW freshmen ever with a slugging percentage over .600 along with Clark (.807), Kaitlin Inglesby (.776), Rivera (.681), and Jennifer Cline (.664). | ||

STARTING OFF RIGHT | |
| Washington's leadoff hitters have combined to hit .449 with a .567 on-base percentage. In the first at-bat of the game, the leadoff hitter has reached safely 19 of 25 times for the Dawgs and has scored 12 times in the first inning. In all, Washington's leadoff spot has scored at least one run in 20 of Washington's 25 games. Only twice has the leadoff hitter not reached base at least once in a game: 2/13 vs. Alabama and 2/15 vs. South Carolina. | ||

BATES BATS | |
| Sis Bates needs five more hits to reach 250 in her career, making her the 15th Husky ever to reach that mark. Since the NCAA shortened softball seasons, only three other players have reached 250 hits in their careers: Ali Aguilar (253), Taylor Van Zee (275), and Kimi Pohlman (276). Only two players in the country currently have 250 career hits: Amber Bishop of Liberty and Sami Williams of Iowa State. Bates is currently on a seven-game hitting streak, the sixth streak of seven or more games in her career. | ||

R-BAY-I | |
| Baylee Klingler has 33 RBI this year, good for the Pac-12 lead and fifth in the nation. With just 25 games played, Klingler has a chance to reach 40 RBI faster than any player ever has in their Husky careers. Currently, that record is held by Shawna Wright, who reached 40 RBI in her first 42 games at UW in 2010. Kristen Rivera (2002) and Jaime Clark (2000) reached 40 RBI in 43 games. Only seven other underclassmen in the nation have at least 30 RBI and only two players have driven in more RBI in fewer games. | ||
