FULLERTON, Ca. – The #2 Washington Huskies came out on the wrong side of a wild one, falling to the #3 Texas Longhorns 8-6. The Huskies had two big innings but couldn't climb back after falling behind 5-0 early.

Baylee Klingler and Jadelyn Allchin continued the hot starts to their Husky careers as each homered. That duo has combined for five home runs against top-five teams.

Offense was the name of the game as both teams traded big early innings. Texas took a 5-0 lead after one inning, only for Washington to score four runs in the second. Washington had five baserunners in the second and four in the sixth, scoring all six of its runs in those two innings.

Brooke Nelson was exactly what the Huskies needed in the circle, holding Texas without a hit for her first two innings after entering in relief. The freshman would throw a career-long five innings: only one runner would make it as far as third base against Nelson.

		SCORING
First Inning: Bad luck struck the Huskies early on. The first batter of the game drew a walk aided in part by an illegal pitch, then a double dropped on the leftfield foul line just past the infield dirt. A wild pitch would score a run, with an obstruction call at third base keeping that runner in scoring position after she had been thrown out at home. Texas would go on to take a 5-0 lead. Second Inning: Washington's road back began with a pair of big home runs. Klingler led off the inning with a solo shot to put the Huskies on the board. A few batters later, Allchin ripped a three-run shot to cut the deficit to one run and chase Texas' starter from the game. Sixth Inning: Texas homered to add two runs. The ball fell just inches out of reaching of a leaping Reynolds at the left-center wall. Sixth Inning: Washington's response came quickly. The first three batters in the bottom half reached safely, then a throwing error brought two runs in to cut it to 8-6.

		NOTES
Since the beginning of 2019, Washington is 27-2 when hitting at least one home run. Allchin (1x3, HR, 3 RBI) has seven RBI her last five games. She had two in her first 13. Klingler (2x3, 2 R, HR) has hit .461 with five runs, three homers, and ten RBI in her last five games against ranked teams. Nelson (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER) has had 11.1 of her 17.2 career innings come against ranked teams. Sami Reynolds (1x4) has reached base safely every game this season and in 22 straight. This was just the second time in her last 31 games that Sis Bates (0x4) has not reached base safely. She had reached base safely multiple times in every game of 2020.

Washington takes on Fresno State tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
