Offense Erupts, Huskies Defeat Fresno State 8-0
February 29, 2020 | Softball
FULLERTON, Ca. – The #2 Washington Huskies scored in four of five innings and beat the Fresno State Bulldogs 8-0 Saturday. Washington only allowed two batters to reach base all game, while on offense six different Huskies would reach base multiple times on their own.
Washington's two-out offense was absolutely dominant: the Huskies had eight hits with two outs and scored six of their runs in those situations. Sami Reynolds had a perfect day at the plate, with a single and a career-high three walks in four plate appearances. Reynolds and Sis Bates, who hit second, were retired just once in their seven plate appearances.
Baylee Klingler started Washington's scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning. She and Morganne Flores each drove in multiple runs.
In the circle, Gabbie Plain became the tenth Husky ever to record 500 career strikeouts in the third inning when she recorded her fourth consecutive strikeout. Only two hitters reached base all game against Plain: she retired ten straight after giving up a first-inning single, Fresno State's only hit. In all, Plain would strike out nine batters, retiring the side in order three times.
Washington finishes the weekend with a 9:00 am game against #11 Michigan, followed by a game against Fullerton tomorrow.
