Washington Faces Top Competition At Judi Garman
February 26, 2020 | Softball
SEATTLE - The #2 Washington Huskies will head to the Judi Garman Classic this weekend for their fourth of five non-conference road tournaments. Washington will play five games this weekend, with three of those five coming against ranked opposition.
After this weekend, Washington will have faced nine ranked teams, including four top-five teams. The Huskies have not faced that many ranked teams in the non-conference slate since playing 11 in 2016. In Heather Tarr's tenure, Washington has only faced more ranked opposition three times: 2006, 2009, and 2016. Washington has not faced more ranked opposition in the season's first 20 games since 1999, when they face ten such foes. Even when including postseason play, Washington last faced more top-five non-conference opposition in 2000.
The Huskies enter this weekend 15-1 and ranked second in the country in both major polls. Washington has scored in double digits eight times and is top-ten in the nation in both scoring and batting average as a team.
Last season at the Judi Garman, Washington went 2-2, with losses to #3 Florida and Michigan. Washington has played at the Judi Garman 24 times in the program's 28 years of existence.

It was the first multi-homer game by a Husky against a top-ten opponent since Julia DePonte in 2016 and the first against a top-five opponent since Kristen Rivera in 2003. Klingler, Rivera, and Jaime Clark are the only Huskies to ever have multi-homer games against top-five teams. Only eight underclassmen have ever had multi-homer games against ranked opposition. |
