
Washington Earns Second-Best Team Score of the Season, Ties Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington had three individual event winners, three career-highs, and two season-highs as the team earned a 196.875 the second-highest score of the season. However, Arizona State was able to match the GymDawgs with a 196.875, putting up their best score of the season by more than half a point.
Washington started strong on bars with Geneva Thompson scoring a season-high 9.900, tying her career-high she set last season. Maya Washington and Brenna Brooks each scored a 9.850, matching a career-high for Brooks. Madison Copiak and Michaela Nelson each added a 9.825 to make it five GymDawgs above the 9.800 mark while earning their best event score on bars of the season with a 49.250.
"Tonight's competition was a total team effort," said assistant coach Ralph Rosso. "We showed a lot of grit in our performances, and earning our second highest score of the season speaks volumes about the character of our team."
Thompson led the way once again on vault, notching a 9.850 and tying Madison Copiak for the Washington lead. Roberson chipped in an 9.825 and Kristyn Hoffa added a 9.800 to make it four GymDawgs at or above the 9.800 threshold. Roberson would go on to earn the individual title on the all around, her sixth in seven competitions.
In the third rotation on floor, Kristyn Hoffa took home the individual title with a 9.925, her fifth straight beam performance at 9.900 or above. Roberson was close behind with a 9.900, good for the second-highest score during the rotation. Maya Washington and Meaghan Ruttan each added in a 9.850, a career-high score for Ruttan.
On beam, Hannah Vandenkolk matched her career-high from last week with a 9.900 which also earned her the individual title. Maya Washington scored a career-high 9.875, the second-highest beam score of the meet. Roberson and Brooks each took home a 9.850 for the rotation to help Washington to a score of 49.275, the third-highest beam score of the season. This marked the second time this season the GymDawgs have scored above 49.000 during each rotation.
"We will get back into the gym looking to make our lineups more complete from top to bottom," said Rosso. "We will continue to activate our pressure scenarios to best prepare us for Sunday against Utah."
The GymDawgs are back in action on Sunday against #3 Utah in Alaska Airlines Arena.
