Yates, Holmes Named To CONCACAF U20 Championships Team
February 13, 2020 | Women's Soccer
CHICAGO - The United States Under-20 National Team roster for the 2020 CONCACAF Championship was announced today, with Washington's Shae Holmes and Summer Yates each selected. The duo will take part in the tournament, set for February 22 to March 8 in the Dominican Republic.
Washington is one of four schools to have multiple athletes selected to the U-20 squad for this tournament. Only North Carolina (four) and Stanford (three) had more athletes selected than the Huskies.
Holmes and Yates, who each have competed with the U-20 squad over the last year on multiple occasions, completed their second seasons at Washington this fall. Yates led the team in scoring in her sophomore season, scoring the most points by a Husky since 2014. She was an All-Pac-12 and All-Region pick, ending the year with 22 points. Yates had five games with multiple goals and/or assists in 2019. She will enter her junior season with 30 points in her Husky career.
Holmes was a redshirt freshman in 2019 after missing almost all of 2018 with injury. After working her way back to full health by mid-September, Holmes would go on to start three games and appear in 14 total for Washington. She scored Washington's game-winning goal in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Seattle U, the first points of her career. In all, Holmes played over 500 minutes on the season, including over 80 in each of the last three games of the season and all 90 in both postseason games.
The USA will open the CONCACAF tournament on Friday, Feb. 22 against Cuba, continue Group C play on Sunday, Feb. 24 vs. host Dominican Republic and wrap up the opening stage on Tuesday, Feb. 26 vs. Honduras. The two top finishing teams in this tournament will qualify for the U20 World Cup, held later this year in Panama and Costa Rica.
