June 21, 2019 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE --- University of Washington women's basketball head coach Jody Wynn announced the team's 2019-20 non-conference schedule on Friday. The 11-game schedule features seven home games, a Thanksgiving trip to Puerto Rico and the 25th Husky Classic.
Washington opens the 2019-20 season with four-straight home games beginning with UW's first-ever meeting against Cal State Bakersfield on Friday, Nov. 8. Two days later, the Huskies host Tulane University on Sunday, Nov. 10 in the second leg of a home-and-home match-up.
Wednesday, Nov. 13, Washington takes on the Wildcats of Weber State before closing out the home stand against cross-town rival Seattle University on Saturday, Nov. 23.
The first road trip for the Huskies sees them travel over 3,700 miles to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout tournament over Thanksgiving Break. Washington faces Iona, Howard and Iowa in the three-day tournament Nov. 28-30. It will be the Huskies' first meeting against Iona and Howard and the first since 1998-99 against Iowa, which was a 2019 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight team.
Washington returns home to face off against Hawaii on Sunday, Dec. 8, before hitting the road again, playing at the University of San Diego on Sunday, Dec. 15.
The Huskies close out the non-conference schedule with the 25th Husky Classic Dec. 20-21 at Alaska Airlines Arena. Washington welcomes in Vanderbilt, UC Irvine and San Francisco for the two-day classic, with the Huskies taking on the USF on Dec. 20 and the Vanderbilt on Dec. 21.
The 2019-20 Pac-12 schedule along with TV games will be announced later.
Washington closed out the 2018-19 season with an impressive run through the Pac-12 Tournament, upsetting Utah and Oregon State to reach the tournament semifinals for the second time in program history. The Huskies return 85 percent of their scoring from last year, adding a trio of four-star recruits and a talented junior college transfer point guard to the 2019-20 squad.
