Nowell Selected as the No. 43 Pick in the 2019 NBA Draft

BROOKLYN, N.Y. โ Sophomore Jaylen Nowell, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year, became the second Husky to hear their name called at the 2019 NBA Draft as he was selected as the No. 43 pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round. Nowell joins teammate Matisse Thybulle, who was earlier chosen as the No. 20 pick by the Boston Celtics with a trade proposed to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Upon hearing his name called, Nowell said, "This is just such a blessing and something I've worked my whole life for. Now that it's become a reality, I'm pretty speechless. I get to represent my family, my city and play in the best league in the world, it's unbelievable."

In the last 17 drafts, at least one Husky has been selected in all but four years (2008, 2013, 2015, 2017). Additionally, the Dawgs have had 56 overall picks in the NBA Draft. It is also the third time since 2006 that the Huskies have had two picks on the night. Additionally, Nowell was one of five Pac-12 players to have his name called through 44 picks on the night.
As a sophomore, Nowell became the third Pac-12 Player of the Year award in UW history after averaging 16.2 points per game on 50.2 percent shooting from the field, up from 45.1 percent a year ago. He led the Dawgs in scoring for the second-straight year and improved his statistical numbers in almost every category. His all-around game saw improvements as well as he dished out a career-best 112 assists and averaged a career-high 5.3 rebounds. The finalist for the Naismith Jerry Shooting Guard of the Year Award also earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors as a sophomore.
