Stanovsek, UW Recruits Race At Husky Track Saturday
June 14, 2019 | Track & Field
SEATTLE - Current, former, and future Huskies will all be in action at Husky Track on Saturday afternoon for the annual Brooks PR Invitational. The majority of the meet is comprised of elite high school athletes, brought to Seattle from all around the country for a national caliber meet, but this season also includes a pair of elite 1,500-meter runs featuring many top professionals.
The PR Invitational was originally held indoors in Washington's Dempsey facility, but in recent years it moved outdoors in June and was held in both Renton and Shoreline before returning to the UW campus this season.
Saturday's meet begins at 3 p.m. and features boys and girls mile runs, two-mile runs, 400-meters, 100 and 110-meter hurdles, 800-meters, and 100-meters. The elite 1,500-meter races are set for 4:55 p.m. for the women and 5:05 p.m. for the men.
Washington recruits on hand include Daniel Maton, Joe Waskom, and Luke Houser in the mile, who went 1-2-3 in the Washington State 1,600m final last month. Also in the mile will be Sam Affolder from Virginia, who was the Track & Field News National Indoor Track Athlete of the Year tihs season.
Colorado state champ Marlena Preigh will also be on the purple track tomorrow in the girl's 800-meters.
Another Husky men's distance recruit, Samuel Tanner, is trying his hand in the elite section against the pros, as Tanner has run a 3:58 mile this year, the first Husky recruit ever to break four minutes.
Along with Tanner, that elite 1,500m section will have current Husky All-American Mick Stanovsek, just eight days from his appearance in the NCAA 1,500m final where he was 10th. A former Husky in the heat is 2016 grad and school record-holder Izaic Yorks, competing for Brooks. Several more Brooks athletes will be in the field, as will UW volunteer assistant Amos Bartelsmeyer, and 2019 Pac-12 Champion William Paulson.
The women's field features the UW women's school record-holder, Katie Mackey, also running for the Brooks Beasts, as well as another former Husky All-American, Eleanor Fulton.
