TUCSON, Ariz. – The #3 Washington Huskies took the first game of the series against the #4 Arizona Wildcats, winning 2-1 on the strength of an early Morganne Flores home run. Gabbie Plain pitched 6.2 in the circle for the Dawgs before Taran Alvelo relieved her, with a number of outstanding defensive plays from the likes of Sis Bates, Taryn Atlee, and all the Huskies helping seal the deal.

Plain ably put the game in the hands of her defense, striking out only two batters but locking down Arizona. The sophomore retired six in a row at one point and twice retired the side in order, in the first and sixth.

Arizona threatened in the seventh inning, managing two infield singles to put runners on the corners with one out before singling in their only run of the game. Alvelo finished off the game for her second save this year, striking out the only batter she faced on three pitches.

		SCORING
Third Inning: After a two-out single by Bates, Flores sent a ball off the batter's eye in centerfield for a two-run bomb and the lead. Seventh Inning: Three singles by Arizona, with only one leaving the infield, plated their only run of the game.

		NOTES
Bates (1x3, R, BB) has scored or driven in a run in 18 consecutive games. Since starting her career 0-for-7 against Arizona, Bates has hit .545. Flores (1x3, HR, 2 RBI) became the 15^th Husky ever with 150 career RBI. Flores set the Washington record for most home runs in Pac-12 play with her 11^th against a conference opponent this year. Kristen Rivera (2005) held the previous record. Plain (6.2 IP, 1 ER) now has a 1.09 ERA in her career in her first start after allowing three or more runs. Plain became the second-fastest Husky ever to 40 wins in their career, behind only Tia Bollinger (51 games).

Two games remain in the Washington-Arizona series. The two teams will play again tomorrow at 1:00 PM PT and on Sunday at 12:00 PM PT.
