Powell Named To U.S. Junior National Training Team

SEATTLE - Pac-12 All-Freshman Team setter Ella May Powell has been named to the 20-player U.S. Junior National Training Team, it was announced today. Powell will be looking to secure a spot on Team USA for the 2019ย FIVB Women's U20 World Championship held this July in Mexico.
Powell was previously selected, along with Samantha Drechsel and Lauren Sanders, to play on the USA Collegiate National Team - Anaheim, from June 23-29, so her summer is quickly getting booked up.
The Women's Junior National Training Team will hold a training camp July 6-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The final selections for the WJNT will be made immediately before leaving for the World Championships.
University of Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott will be the head coach for the Junior National Team. Theย U20 World Championships are set for July 12-21 in Léon Guanajuato & Aguascalientes, Mexico.
During her freshman season in 2018, the native of Fayetteville, Arkansasย led the team in assists in every match and tallied 1,317 for the year and a 10.71 assists per set average that ranked fifth in the Pac-12. It was the most assists by a Husky freshman in the 25-point per set era and most since 2007.
