Huskies Fall To No. 12 Stanford

SEATTLE – The Washington men's tennis team lost 4-1 to No. 12 Stanford at Quillian Tennis Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies won the doubles point but couldn't keep the momentum going as the Cardinal won four singles matches in the final regular season match of the year. UW finishes the regular season with a record of 7-16 and 2-6 in Pac-12 play.
The Huskies got off to the early lead as the senior pair of Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer defeated Jack Barber and Axel Geller 6-4. At No. 3 doubles freshman Ewen Lumsden and freshman Adam Torocsik fell to Alexandre Rotsaert and Sangeer Sridhar 6-2. The doubles point was decided on Court 1 as sophomore Jack Davis and senior Piers Foley defeated Sameer Kumar and Tomothy Sah 6-3.
Stanford evened up the match at one as Sah beat senior Sebastian Hawken in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
The next match to finish was on Court 6 as Michael Geneder defeated Torocsik, 6-2, 6-4.
The Cardinal would make it 3-1 as Davis lost to 51st ranked Rotsaert 2-6, 6-3, 3-6 in the third set.
Stanford clinched the match at No. 1 singles as 13th ranked Geller beat Sommer 7-6, 7-6 in a tight match throughout. Both sets went to a tiebreaker and ultimately Geller was able to come out as the victor.
The final two singles matches went unfinished. Lumsden was even with 114th ranked Kumar 6-2, 4-6, 3-3 in the third set while Foley was up in the third 6-1, 1-6, 4-3 against 113th ranked Genesen.
The Huskies will next be in action at the Pac-12 Championships, April 24-27 in Ojai, Calif.
