April 16, 2019 | Men's Golf
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Washington men's golf team sits in 10th place after shooting 17-over in the second round of the Western Intercollegiate on Tuesday. UW heads into the final round of play at Pasatiempo Golf Club at 37-over par.
"Overall tough day for us but we had two guys play really well," said head coach Alan Murray. "Ranveer shot 68 and Jan shot 69 which are both excellent scores out there. It's a great layout and the different wind direction today made it a challenge. It forces you to be really diligent and pay attention. We just have to apply the lessons we learned about the course in the first two rounds to help us with the final round. We have hit and are capable of hitting good shots and that's what we need to do more of tomorrow."
Sophomore Jan Schneider posted a 1-under round of 69 and is tied for 10th place at even par. Schneider finished his front nine very strong, shooting 5-under on the final seven holes including an eagle on the par-5 9th hole. Schneider has been excellent on the par-3's through two rounds as he is 1-under, which is tied for first in the field. He also is -4 on the par-5's, tied for third in the field.
Freshman Ranveer Grewal jumped up 32 spots on the leaderboard on Tuesday as he carded a 2-under par round of 68. Grewal heads into the final round of play in a tie for 42nd place at 6-over par. His second round was nearly flawless, carding three birdies and only one bogey on the round.
Sophomore Noah Woolsey posted a 5-over round of 75 and is tied for 57th place at 9-over par.
Senior William Mansfield also shot a 5-over 75 on Tuesday and after two rounds of play, he is tied for 73rd place at +13.
Junior Shamu Bodhidatta is tied for 73rd place as well after he posted a 10-over round of 80. Junior Henry Lee struggled on Tuesday, posting a round of 84. Lee is in 83rd place heading into the final round.
San Jose State holds a one shot lead over Stanford heading into the third round of action. Isaiah Salindo of Stanford continues to lead the individuals at 8-under par.
The Huskies will tee off the final round on Wednesday, beginning at 8:54 a.m. playing alongside San Diego State, UC Irvine and UTEP.
