April 15, 2019 | Women's Golf
PALOS VERDES, Calif. – The 19th ranked Washington women's golf team shot an 18-over round of 302 in the first round of play of the Pac-12 Championships at Palos Verdes Golf Club on Monday. The Huskies will head into the second round of play in eighth place.
"We got off to a rough start and just never recovered," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "Our attitude is upbeat. Tomorrow will be a better day. Julianne's round of 1-over is impressive in these conditions as it is quite windy."
Senior Julianne Alvarez is tied for ninth place after carding a 1-over round of 72 on the day. Alvarez rolled in three birdie putts in her opening round. Alvarez was 1-under on the par-3's in her first round, tied for second in the field.
Junior Alice Duan shot a 5-over round of 76 in her first round of play and is tied for 32nd place.
Senior Wenyung Keh is tied for 36th place at 6-over par after carding a round of 77 on Monday. Keh carded three birdies on her round.
Senior Sarah Rhee also posted a 6-over round of 77 and is in a tie for 36th place. Sophomore Rino Sasaki sits in a tie for 36th after she too posted a 6-over round of 77 in the first round of the championship.
USC leads the tournament at 1-under par and is six strokes ahead of second place Stanford. Albane Valenzuela of Stanford is the individual leader at 6-under par.
The Huskies will begin the second round at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, playing alongside Washington State.
