Pang, Yates Earn All-Region
December 02, 2019 | Women's Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After helping the Huskies earn a national seed and make a second-round NCAA Tournament trip, Kaylene Pang and Summer Yates have been named All-Pacific Region Second Team by United Soccer Coaches. The duo also earned All-Pac-12 honors for their seasons. These are the first All-Pac-12 and first All-Region honors for each.
Pang and Yates are Washington's first All-Region honorees since Jessica Udovich in 2017. Washington has not had multiple players earn All-Region since 2015, when McKenzie Karas, Kimberly Keever, and Shannon Simon all earned the honor. Washington has not had multiple players on the Second Team or higher since 2000, when Hope Solo earned First Team and Andrea Morelli and Theresa Wagner earned Second Team.
Pang finished her second consecutive season of playing every possible minute for the Huskies this year and has now started 40 consecutive games. This year, Pang helped the Huskies record nine shutouts, including a shutout of Seattle U in the NCAA Tournament. Only five opponents scored multiple goals against the Huskies all year. Pang is the first Husky defender to earn All-Region and All-Pac-12 in the same year since Andrea Morelli did so in 2000. The last Husky at any position to do so was in 2015, when Shannon Simon and Kimberly Keever were so honored.
Yates had the highest-scoring season by a Husky sophomore ever this year, recording 22 points. That was the most by any Husky since 2014. Against Pac-12 opponents, Yates had ten points. Against ranked opponents, she had five goals and two assists in eight games. She had five games with multiple goals and/or assists, including her first career brace, coming against Cal Poly.
