Pang Named Scholar All-Region
December 16, 2019 | Women's Soccer, Student-Athlete Academic Services
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Washington's Kaylene Pang was named to the United Soccer Coaches' Scholar All-Region Team today. Pang had already been named to the All-Pac-12 and All-Region teams for her play on the field before earning this academic honor.
Pang is Washington's first Scholar All-Region selection since 2014, when six Huskies earned the award. Pang's award is the 33rd Scholar All-Region honor in Washington history. Only five other Huskies have ever earned both Scholar All-Region and athletic All-Region in the same year: Pang joins Kate Bennett, Jaclyn Softli, Tina Frimpong, Theresa Wagner, and Tara Bilanski in that honor.
This year, Pang played every minute possible for the second consecutive season, starting every game in central defense. She helped the Huskies earn nine shutouts and return to the NCAA Tournament, where they reached the second round after defeated Seattle U. Washington finished third in the Pac-12 and allowed under a goal a game thanks in part to Pang's stellar play.
Pang was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team in 2018, her first year of eligibility for the conference's academic awards. She is a mechanical engineering major and has earned multiple Dean's List selections at Washington throughout her career.
