Dawgs Open Season at Armed Forces Classic vs. No. 16 Baylor

Washington vs. No. 16 Baylor (Big 12)
UW officially opens the 2019-20 season on Friday, Nov. 8 as it faces No. 16 Baylor in the Armed Forces Classic held at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The game will be televised at 6:30 p.m. PT on ESPN with Dan Schulman, Jay Bilas and Seth Greenberg on the call. Additionally, fans can tune into KVI 570AM to hear Gary Hill and Jason Hamilton on the official Husky Radio Broadcast. This is the first time since the 2015-16 season (vs. Texas in China) that UW will be opening the season in a neutral site contest. It is also the first time since the 1980-81 season that the Dawgs' first opponent of the season is ranked (UW opened at No. 19 BYU, Nov. 28, 1980, a 70-80 loss).

The Coach (48-22 at UW/3rd Year)
Head Coach Mike Hopkins is in his third year at Washington, and third as a head coach after becoming the 19th head coach in UW history. During his 22 years as an assistant at Syracuse, Hopkins was a part of teams that reached the NCAA Tournament 16 times including the 2003 National Championship, four Final Fours, five Elite Eights and 10 Sweet 16s along with four NIT berths. Syracuse never dipped below a 55.0 percent record while Hopkins was on staff. Hopkins is the reigning back-to-back Pac-12 Coach of the Year, winning the honor in each of his two seasons with the Huskies and has led UW to back-to-back 20-win seasons with postseason appearances each year.
