Holmes, Yates Selected For USA U20 Team Camp
November 26, 2019 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - After big seasons for the Huskies, Washington's own Summer Yates and Shae Holmes have been invited to the USA U20 National Team camp, set for December 5-14. Both Holmes and Yates have played with USA Soccer before, with Holmes a part of the U19 Team in the past and Yates playing this last summer with the U23 Team.
Washington is one of only four schools with multiple players invited to the U20 Team. Only Virginia, with four players invited, has more participants than Washington. Oregon is the only other Pac-12 school to have multiple players invited.
Yates finished her sophomore season at Washington with All-Pac-12 Second Team honors. The Washington native was a dangerous scoring threat, leading the team with 22 points, the most by any Husky since 2014 and the highest-scoring year by a Husky sophomore ever. In Pac-12 play alone, Yates had ten points, the first Husky with double-digit conference points since 2011.
"Getting invited to play with the U20s is always a huge honor for me," said Yates. "I'm super excited and grateful to play with some amazing players. I hope to make an impact for the team and represent UW well!"
Holmes was rock solid in her first season back from a torn ACL. She would make her first appearance against Denver in a Husky win: Washington would shutout six opponents in Holmes' games. Against Seattle U, Holmes scored her first career goal in her first NCAA Tournament game, winning the game to send the Huskies to the second round.
Holmes was excited about the opportunity saying that "it's rewarding knowing that all the hard work I put into my injury rehab over these past two years is continuing to pay off. I'm excited to be back and continue to improve."
The pair of Huskies will take part in USA Soccer's 2019 Nike International Friendlies, set for December 9-14, against Brazil and France.
