Five Reasons To Attend Washington's NCAA Tournament First-Round Match
November 14, 2019 | Women's Soccer
The Washington women's soccer team is back in the NCAA Tournament, and we've got five reasons why you won't want to miss the Huskies' first-round match against Seattle U this Saturday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
1. #NCAASoccer is back on Montlake.
The Huskies have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament 15 times during head coach Lesle Gallimore's 26 seasons at the helm, twice advancing to the Elite Eight while moving past the first round nine times. The last time Washington hosted a postseason match was 2014, the same season it advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
2. It's a local derby.
Saturday night's NCAA Tournament match will have some local flavor as Washington hosts cross-town foe Seattle U. The two squads met earlier this season, playing to a tense 0-0 draw in double overtime at Husky Soccer Stadium. Both teams have come a long way since that contest…
3. The Huskies have scored some jaw-dropping goals this season.
4. Washington's defense has been spectacular this season.
The Huskies are the fourth-stingiest defense in the Pac-12, having allowed only 18 goals in 19 games this season. Senior goalkeeper Siena Ruelas earned Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week honors once this season and has given up just 12 goals all season.
5. Lesle Gallimore will coach her final home match as head coach of the Huskies.
After 26 years on Montlake, head coach Lesle Gallimore's final home match as Washington's head coach will come this Saturday. It was announced back in January that the Huskies' 2019 campaign would be Gallimore's last, and she departs having won over 260 games in her career.
