RACE SCHEDULE
11:30 a.m. - Women's 6,000-meters
12:30 p.m. - Men's 10,000-meters
SEATTLE - The road to Terre Haute runs through Colfax, Wash. for the Husky cross country teams as the Dawgs look to secure their places in the NCAA Championships that are now just ten days away on Nov. 23. To be lining up in ten days the Huskies will have to execute in two days at the West Regional Championships, hosted by Washington State at the Colfax Golf Club this Friday afternoon.
The West Regional meet is one of nine regional championships around the country this weekend, with the top-two teams from each site automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships. After those 18 spots are taken, 13 more teams will receive at-large bids based on a combination of Regional finish and results from earlier in the season.
The women's 6k will be up first at 11:30 a.m. and the men's 10k follows at 12:30 p.m. Regionals is the first time that the men move up from 8k to the 10k distance.
Washington's women's team heads into Regionals ranked fourth nationally, and second in the West behind No. 2-ranked Stanford. Stanford and Washington went 1-2 at Pac-12s two weeks ago and are the favorites again in Colfax. Also ranked in the West on the women's side is No. 13 Boise State, No. 19 Oregon, and No. 30 Cal Baptist.
The men are ranked 14th nationally but just fifth in an outstanding West Region field. Fourth-ranked Stanford leads the way followed by No. 6 Oregon, No. 10 UCLA, and No. 11 Portland, as the battle for the top-two auto spots will be fierce. Boise State is also ranked 27th and Gonzaga is just outside the top-30 in the receiving votes category.
The women will travel eight and compete with seven runners. The eight Huskies making the trip include Lilli Burdon, Camila David-Smith, Haley Herberg, Shona McCulloch, Katie Rainsberger, Allie Schadler, Mel Smart, and Hannah Waskom.
The men's group features Julius Diehr, Isaac Green, Talon Hull, Andrew Jordan, Tibebu Proctor, Jack Rowe, Alex Slenning, and Sam Tanner.
