2020-21 (Track): Became an Olympian for his native New Zealand, becoming the first current Husky to compete at the Olympic Games since Aretha Thurmond in 1996 ... at the Tokyo Olympics, placed ninth in his preliminary heat in a tactical race in 3:43.22, which was 35th overall ... broke the collegiate 1,500-meter record and did it indoors in his first race back in the U.S. following the Covid-19 pandemic, as he ran 3:34.72 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in New York City to also make the Olympic Standard of 3:35.00 ... record 1,500m time was faster than the outdoor collegiate record of 3:35.01 set by Josh Kerr in 2018 as well as the former indoor mark of 3:35.46, and it was also a New Zealand indoor national record ... ended his NCAA season in the 1,500-meter final at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, placing 10th overall to earn All-America Second Team honors ... advanced through the NCAA 1,500m semifinal with an outdoor season-best of 3:38.37 ... took third in the final of the Pac-12 Championships at 1,500-meters in 3:41.19 ... ran another quick 1,500-meters of 3:38.58 at the West Coast Relays ... won the UW-WSU Dual 800m in 1:48.63 ... indoors, placed 13th overall at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the mile, just missing the final by .01 seconds after a tactical semi heat ... qualified for the NCAA Indoor meet with the second-fastest mile run in UW history, going 3:55.23 at the Husky Classic ... during the fall in New Zealand, he ran outstanding times of 3:54.97 to win the New Zealand national title in the mile, as well as a 1,500m time of 3:36.44 and a 3,000m PR of 7:54.16.
2019-20 (Indoor Track; Outdoor Season Canceled): Broke the Freshman School Record in the mile during his first indoor season with a time of 3:59.01 at the UW Invitational, going to No. 7 in school history … also ran the No. 2 time in UW history at 1,000-meters in 2:21.78 to get the win at the UW Indoor Preview … ran a rare indoor 1,500-meters at the BU Last Chance Qualifier and posted a time of 3:39.49 that would have been the No. 2 time in school history if duplicated outdoors … earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors ... (Cross Country): Raced at all three championship meets in his first collegiate season … best race, and first time in the top-seven, came at the Pac-12 Championships, where he placed 24th overall and fifth on the team in a time of 23:45 … at West Regionals was 64th overall and sixth on the squad in 31:12 for 10k … placed 233rd overall at his first NCAA Championships … took third-place in the open race at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute in 24:40 … raced unattached at the John Payne Invite and finished fifth in 24:59.
High School and Personal: Born in Papamoa, New Zealand, parents are Paul and Krissy Tanner … oldest of five children, younger siblings are Logan, Summar, Lucy, and Charlie … one of the most impressive prep careers of any Husky recruit in history … ranked sixth in the world U20 rankings in 2019 at 1,500-meters with a time of 3:38.74 that he ran in Seattle at the Brooks PR Invite … that time was a New Zealand U20 1,500m record … became the first Husky signee to break four minutes in the mile and also the first New Zealand high school athlete to break four when he ran 3:58.41 in march of 2019 … placed fifth in the 1,500-meters at the 2019 Australian Track Championships at the senior level … competed at the 2018 World U20 Championships in Finland, placing 13th in the 1,500-meters … a junior national cross country champion … an avid surfer, he was fifth in the New Zealand Secondary School Surfing Championships in 2018.
