CARROLLTON, Texas – The No. 2 University of Washington men's golf team moved into a tie for fifth place following round two at the Maridoe Intercollegiate on Monday as they currently sit at 28-over 604 (303-301). The Huskies were led by freshman Bo Peng, who was one of three players in the field to record a round under par on the tough Maridoe Golf Course.
Washington is within four strokes of second place and 13 strokes off the lead, which is held by SMU at 15-over 591. Second place is 24-over 600 held by North Texas, Arkansas State and Texas A&M.
"Bo had a great round today making seven birdies, which is very impressive on this course," said head coach Alan Murray. "It was windy again out there but it was coming from a completely different direction than yesterday. Bo might be a freshman but he doesn't play like one and if he has another solid round tomorrow, he might have a chance to get a tournament win. Paul had a good round and Henry and Jan, despite struggling a little, still battled hard. This course will expose you and you really have to make some good shots. Even though Noah had an uncharacteristic day, we have a good chance for second place as the leaderboard is extremely tight, so we need to have a good round tomorrow."
Peng climbed 17 spots up the board during round two as he carded a 1-under 71 thanks to seven birdies balancing out his round. The freshman is currently tied for fourth at 2-over 146 (75-71) and is just four strokes off the lead which is held by SMU's Noah Goodwin (2-under 142).
Joining him on the leaderboard climb during Monday's round was sophomore Paul Margolis, who is tied for 16th at 6-over 150 (76-74). Margolis moved up 11 spots following his second 18 holes and posted a round that featured just three blemishes. He birdied three and made par on 12 holes but two doubles and a bogey on hole 15 gave him a 2-over 74 for the day.
Junior Jan Schneider sits tied for 25th at 8-over 152 (74-78) while freshman Petr Hruby, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 41st at 12-over 156 (78-78). Just behind them is senior Henry Lee as he turned in a 6-over 78 to move his score to 14-over 158 (80-78) and tie for 48th.
Rounding out the UW lineup is junior Noah Woolsey, who's 15-over 159 (78-81) is tied for 51st. The Huskies close out the Maridoe Intercollegiate on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
