WASHINGTON, D. C. – University of Washington senior Henry Lee leads the field while the Huskies also hold the team lead at the Georgetown Intercollegiate following 36 holes on Monday at Four Streams Golf Course in Washington, D.C. The Huskies are at 5-under 563 (281-282), leading the field by nine strokes and were the only team to post an under-par score. Four Huskies also sit in the top five heading into Tuesday's final round.
"The guys did great today here in Georgetown," said head coach Alan Murray. "Henry played really really well today then we've got Paul, Noah and Petr also in the top five competing hard which bodes well for us. We finished a little bit poorly but hopefully we can come out of the box strongly tomorrow and keep doing what we're doing. We've got a chance to win the tournament which we're always trying to do but we've just got to be better again tomorrow which is the theme really for the year and we'll see what we can do in the morning."
Lee turned in a 7-under 135 on day one following rounds of 66-69 on the par-71 course and leads the field by four strokes. He opened the day with eight birdies over his first 18 and followed that with four more en route to his field-leading scorecard. The 12 birdies on the day were the most in the 72-player field.
Just behind him was sophomore Paul Margolis who put together rounds of 1-under 70 and 2-under 69 for a 3-under 139 on Monday, which is currently tied for second. Margolis posted three birdies in his first round with just two blemishes during his round. He then opened his second round with an eagle on the par 5 fourth hole and followed with three more birdies to push his score 5-under before two bogeys and a double to finish the day.
Freshman Petr Hruby, competing as an individual, is in fourth place after recording a 2-under 140 with back-to-back rounds of 1-under 70. His second 18 featured two birdies with just one blemish while going clean on the other 15 holes. Junior Noah Woolsey carded a 1-under 141 (72-69) for fifth place after he improved upon his first round score by three strokes with a 2-under 69 thanks to four birdies.
Freshman Bo Peng is tied for 29th at 6-over 148 (73-75) while junior Jan Schneider is tied for 36th at 7-over 149 (73-76).
Washington will look to win their third tournament title of the season with their final 18 holes on Tuesday, which begin at 5:40 a.m. PT. Scoring can be found on golfstat.com.
