Meek Scores Golden Goal as Huskies Win 2-1 at No. 2 Stanford
October 03, 2019 | Men's Soccer
The victory was the Huskies' fifth-straight as them improve to 9-1-0 on the season and remain perfect in the conference at 3-0-0. The loss was the first of the season for the Cardinal, who fall to 7-1-0 and to 1-1-0 in Pac-12 play.
"What a game tonight," said UW Head Coach Jamie Clark. "It takes two teams to make it that at exciting, and tonight we had both teams competing for every ball and never backing down. It was going to come down to a few moments and thankfully we had the quality to pull it out."
"So great to see Meek continue his hot start," Clark added. "He's irrepressible and someone that just finds a way!"
Meek's goal was his team-leading sixth goal of the season and sixth in his last seven matches. He had a five-match scoring streak snapped last week versus Portland but started a new one on Thursday.
Meek started the final play, gathering the ball at midfield and finding junior Blake Bodily on the right wing. Bodily carried the ball down the right side and sent a perfect cross to the far post where Meek had an amazing diving header inside the post for the winner.
"It is a pretty unbelievable feeling to come to Stanford and get the win," said Meek. "As soon as Blake got the ball, I knew he can be dangerous with it. I saw him cut onto his left and I made a run as hard as I could and gave it all I had and luckily, I was there to put it away. But Blake was really the one who was able to make that happen."

Washington got the first goal in the 16th on the first real chance for either team. Charlie Ostrem gathered a failed clearance and sent a long ball into the box. Jaret Townsend was able to get a foot on it and hit it off the cross bar. It would roll across the goal where Lucas Meek tried a bicycle kick and drew two defenders. But it was Miglietti who snuck in on the far post and blasted the ball into the open net for his third of the season.

The Huskies held a 6-0 shot advantage in the early going and dominated the first half, holding an 11-4 edge in shots through the first 45 minutes.
Stanford would knot the game up early in the second as Zach Ryan scored on a blast from 15 yards out, finding the left corner in the 48th minute.
UW dominated the run of play throughout, outshooting the Cardinal 21-11 and could have added a couple of goals in regulation. But it was near the end of the first overtime that the Huskies' best chance to break through came. Meek knocked a corner kick toward the goal mouth where Freddy Kleemann got a head on it, but Stanford's keep made a miraculous save to keep the ball out of the goal.
Husky netminder Bryce Logan got the win to improve to 5-1-0 on the season, making three saves in the contest.
Washington closes out the brief road trip on Sunday, facing California at 3:00 p.m. The Golden Bears picked up an impressive 2-1 win over Oregon State on Thursday afternoon and are 1-1-0 in conference play.
