Davis and Lumsden Win Three Matches on Day One of ITA NW Regionals

PALO ALTO, Calif. --- The Washington men's tennis team opened the 2019-20 season with a solid showing on the first day of the ITA Northwest Regionals, with three of four doubles teams winning and a pair of Huskies advancing the round of 32 in singles play on Friday.

In singles action, Jack Davis—the No. 9 seed in the upper portion of the bracket—picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Stanford's Sam Turchetta to open the day, then added a 7-6 (0), 6-2 win over UC Davis's Brett Brinkman in his second round match.

Ewen Lumsden also earned a pair of wins on the first day of action, beating Joshua Snowdon-Poole from Sacramento State 6-3, 6-2. He would follow that up with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Karlo Divkovic from Saint Mary's to move into the round of 32.

On the doubles side, Davis and Lumsden moved on to the second round with an 8-6 victory over Manuel Balce and Mikayel Khachatryan from Eastern Washington.Stevie Gould and Kasper Smith cruised into the second round with a quick 8-0 win over Nikola Dimitrijevic and Otto Holtair of Portland State. Adam Torocsik and Thibault Cancel rounded out the UW doubles winners with an 8-4 win over Tadiwa Chinamo and Manroop Saini of Pacific.

All three doubles teams return to the counts on Saturday morning at 9:15 am with the singles matches slated to begin at 1:15 pm.
