Washington Back To Winning Ways With Shutout
October 10, 2019 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – The Washington Huskies scored early and never looked back, defeating the Arizona State Sun Devils 1-0 Thursday night for another Pac-12 win. The Huskies are now 3-1-0 in Pac-12 play and 7-3-2 overall, having yet to lose consecutive games all season.
Olivia van der Jagt had the game's only goal, getting her feet to an Isabella Castro cross in the game's first five minutes. The Huskies managed ten shots in the game's first 26 minutes and would end the game with 24 total shots, just one off their season best.
Siena Ruelas was in goal for another shutout, her second in the last three games. Ruelas made four total saves, two each half. That include an all-important leaping push late in the second half to protect the lead after Arizona State put together a ten-minute stretch of ball control.
The Huskies would take control quickly after that 71st minute Ruelas save. In a two-and-a-half minute stretch ending in the 82nd minute, the Huskies fire five shots, nearly scoring two goals off corner kicks that Makena Carr got on the end of. That pressure would be enough to ensure the 1-0 lead stayed in place.
