The Washington Huskies At A Glance
The 23rd-ranked Huskies return home for a pair of big matches this weekend. First up, Washington hosts CSUN on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The match will be streamed on GoHuskies.com. On Sunday, the Huskies welcome in #14 Akron to Seattle for a Sunday afternoon tilt, kicking off at 4:30 p.m. It will be Alumni Day with a special beer garden available for fans 21-and-over. The match will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network with live stats available on GoHuskies.com.
Washington rebounded from its first loss of the season with a dominating performance at Gonzaga on Monday. The Huskies won 3-0 in Spokane, outshooting the Bulldogs 23-4 in the match. Scott Menzies tallied a pair of goals in the match to give him a Pac-12 best four goals on the season. Joey Parish recorded the first goal while Quentin Pearson picked up a pair of assists. Saif Kerawala picked up his third shutout, needing to make just one save to earn his third win of the year.
The CSUN Matadors At A Glance
The Matadors are off to a strong start, posting a 3-1-0 including wins over New Mexico and a 6-1 thrashing of previously unbeaten Utah Valley on Sunday. Sophomore Daniel Trejo recorded a hat trick in that match, tallying three goals over a 12-minute stretch after Utah Valley had tied the match at 1-1. CSUN's lone loss was a 3-2 heartbreaker at San Francisco as the Dons scored in the 81st minute to get the win.

The all-time series has been incredibly close with three of the four matches ending in draws and the Huskies winning 2-1 in the other. The teams have not played since the 2010 season when they played to a scoreless tie in a match at the Cal State Fullerton Invite on Sept. 10, 2010.
The Akron Zips At A Glance
The Zips have opened the season with a surprising 1-1-1 record, going winless against a pair of ranked teams and narrowly edging Pittsburgh 1-0 at home last week. Akron opened with a 2-2 draw against No. 9 Butler before losing 2-0 to #17 NC State. Sophomore David Egbo has scored all three of Akron's goals this year, one of which came on a penalty kick.
The Zips, who have been an NCAA power over the last decade including reaching the semifinals four times over the last nine seasons, play Friday at Seattle U before facing the Huskies. Those matches will be their first two road contests of the year.

The Zips are 2-1-0 against the Huskies in three all-time meetings including a 2-0 victory when the teams met in Akron last season. Washington's lone victory over Akron came in 2000 when the Huskies won 3-0 at the Portland adidas Invitational on Sept. 10, 2000.
That's Just Offensive, Man
The Washington offense posted three goals at Gonzaga on Monday, giving the Huskies nine goals in four matches this year. Washington has scored at least two goals in each of its last six matches dating back to last year, matching the longest stretch since the team had eight such matches from 1991-92.
In 2017, Washington scored 40 goals–the most since tallying 45 during the 2013 campaign. It was just the fourth time in the last 18 years the Huskies had scored 40 or more goals in a season. Washington finished second in the Pac-12 and 17th in the NCAA with its 2.00 goals per game average, scoring at least three goals in a match seven times last season, going 6-1-0 in those contests.
Pac-12 Rankings
A number of Huskies are already ranked among the top players in the Pac-12. Scott Menzies leads the conference with four goals and is tied with a 1.00 goals per game average. Kyle Coffee and Joey Parish are tied for third with two goals each. Menzies also leads the Pac-12 in points with eight, averaging 2.00 per match. Five Huskies are tied for the conference lead with two assists each. Saif Kerawala currently leads the Pac-12 in shutouts with three and is fourth in goals against average at 0.73.
Overtime Blues
The Huskies' 3-2 double-overtime loss at Denver extended their streak to five straight overtime matches without a victory (0-4-1). Washington went 0-3-1 in four OT matches in 2017. The Huskies last overtime win was a 1-0 victory at Stanford on Oct. 30, 2016.
Menzies the Man!
Senior Scott Menzies recorded a pair of goals against Gonzaga to move back into the team lead with four goals on the season. Menzies, who leads the Pac-12 with four goals, now has 13 in his career with seven coming during the 2017 season. Of those 13, six have been match-winners, though his goal against Maryland was his only such goal in 2018.
Caution! Hot Coffee!
Kyle Coffee tallied his second goal of the season at New Mexico, recording the game's first goal just two minutes into the second half. Dating back to last season, that goal gave Coffee seven goals in UW's previous nine matches. Coffee added an assist on Scott Menzies' insurance goal later in the match and is third on the team with five points.
Parish the Thought
Joey Parish earned a spot on the DI Team of the Week from both College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer for the week ending Aug. 26 with a pair of assists in the Huskies' 2-0 win over Maryland. He has continued his hot play this past week, scoring goals at Denver and Gonzaga to give him six points on the season.
Teves Tallies No. 1
Freshman Dylan Teves recorded his first collegiate goal with a blast in the 63rd minute at No. 19 Denver. Teves worked around a pair of defenders and cracked a shot from just outside of the box for his tally of the season. The freshman has seen action in all four matches, playing 61 minutes this year.
Shutout Saif
Saif Kerawala has already recorded three shutouts this season which gives him 10 over the last two seasons. He currently leads the Pac-12 with those three cleansheets after ranking second with seven last season.
In the Rankings ...
A week after making a huge jump in the Coaches' poll rankings, the Huskies dropped 20 spots to No. 23 in this week's version. That drop came after a hard-fought, overtime loss at No. 6 Denver–a team which has lost just five home matches over the last seven years. Washington came in at No. 9 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll, No. 13 in the Soccer America poll and No. 16 in the College Soccer News poll. RPI rankings are not yet available.
Difficult Road Ahead
The Huskies have put together one of the most challenging schedules in the country with seven teams (10 total matches) against teams currently ranked or receiving votes in the latest Coaches' poll. In the Pac-12 alone, three fellow conference members are ranked in the Top 30: Stanford (#25), UCLA (RV) and California (RV).
Number 200 for Clark
Monday's match vs. New Mexico was the 200th match coached by UW Head Coach Jamie Clark in 11 seasons. Clark posted a 128-50-22 record in 200 matches during three stops as a head coach including an 89-35-19 record at Washington. Clark began his coaching career at Harvard where his teams went 26-10-1 in two seasons. He coached one season at Creighton, going 13-5-2 before moving to Seattle.
Preseason All-Pac-12 Coaches Picks
The Huskies saw three players named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 team: senior defender Quentin Pearson, redshirt senior midfielder Kyle Coffee and sophomore midfielder Blake Bodily. In addition, UW was picked to finish second by the Pac-12 coaches, just six points behind Stanford and one point ahead of UCLA.
1,000 Matches in Program History
The Huskies' season-opening match against Maryland was the 1,000th in program history. Men's soccer has been a varsity sport at Washington since the 1962 season and the Huskies amassed a record of 626-263-111 over the course of its first 1,000 matches.

The Huskies have won seven-straight home openers dating back to 2011 and have lost just twice in their last 30 (26-2-2) such matches going back to 1988. Washington placed seven players on the All-Pac-12 team including Blake Bodily, who earned First-Team honors and was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Forward Kyle Coffee, defender Quentin Pearson and goalkeeper Saif Kerawala are among the returners to earn second-team recognition.
