Lee Falls to 26th; Yuan to 34th After Second Round
May 15, 2018 | Men's Golf
STOCKTON, Calif. --- Washington's pair of golfers at the 2018 NCAA Pacific Regional will have an uphill battle to secure a trip to the National Championships after a rough second round as sophomore Henry Lee dropped to 26th overall and junior Carl Yuan to 34th on Tuesday at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.
Lee had a pretty solid round going through much of the day, sitting at even-par through the front nine and at 1-under after a birdie on 16. However, he would bogey 17 and then double 18, finishing the day at 2-over 74 to leave him at even-par 144 (70-74) for the tournament. He is currently tied for 26th, 10 shots behind the leader.
Yuan had a frustrating day overall with a 5-over 77 after posting the second-best first round in the tournament at 68 on Monday. Like Lee, Yuan was at even par through the front nine but ran into trouble on the back nine. He would card two bogeys and two double-bogeys over the back nine along with a birdie on 16 to finish at 5-over and ends the day tied for 34th overall, 11 shots back.
The Husky pair are looking to earn one individual spot which is available to the top golfer not on one of the five teams which qualify for nationals. Currently the golfer with that spot is at 9-under par.
Washington opens the final round tomorrow morning with Yuan teeing off at 9:31 am and Lee right after at 9:53.
