SEATTLE โ After a record-setting regular season, the #8 Washington GymDawgs are off to Pennsylvania this week for the University Park NCAA Regional. Washington will be the second seed at the Regional, looking to make it back-to-back years heading to Nationals. The Regional will be Saturday, April 7 at 1:00 pm and will stream live on the Big Ten Network.
ย
The GymDawgs finished the 2018 regular season ranked eighth in the nation, their highest ever regular-season finish. Washington is looking to make its seventh trip to Nationals and the first back-to-back trips since 1997 and 1998.
ย
Last week, Washington took fourth at the Pac-12 Championships with a score of 196.750. That team score was the third-highest score by Washington at the Pac-12 Championships ever, helping the team to its ninth top-four finish in the conference.
ย
Hailey Burleson, Monica Riley, and Evanni Roberson all earned All-Pac-12 honors for their impressive performances in the regular season. Burleson was named Second Team on all-around and beam, the second consecutive year she has been honored by the conference for those two events. Riley earned her first-ever All-Pac-12 honor, for bars, while Roberson was also named to the Second Team for her excellence on beam.
ย
Seven GymDawgs earned All-Academic honors from the conference as well. Riley was named to the First Team for her academic excellence, while Burleson earned a Second Team nod. Roberson, Michaela Nelson, Joslyn Goings, Kristyn Hoffa, and Maya Washington were all named Honorable Mention.
ย
Washington is looking for its record fifth score of 197 or higher this weekend. The GymDawgs tied the school record with four scores of 197 or higher in the regular season. Washington is ranked in the top 25 in all four events, including top-ten marks on beam and floor. The GymDawgs are seventh in the country on beam and ninth in the country on floor.
