Washington Returns To NCAA Nationals Friday

SEATTLE – For the second year in a row, the #11 Washington GymDawgs will head to NCAA Nationals this Friday at 4:00 pm PT. The GymDawgs finished the regular season ranked eighth in the nation, their highest regular-season finish ever, and will look to build on last year's eighth-place finish at Nationals. Washington will be starting on floor in session two, which will be streamed live on ESPNU.
Washington advanced to Nationals with its second-place finish at the University Park Regional. The GymDawgs were led by Maya Washington, Kristyn Hoffa, and Zoey Schaefer, who were all named the NCAA Regionals champion on floor after putting up scores of 9.900. It was Washington's first NCAA Regional championship on floor since 2010, when Kristen Linton and Samantha Walior won it. The GymDawgs have now won 16 individual NCAA Regional championships in program history.
It has been a record-setting year for the GymDawgs, who took home four All-Pac-12 awards and seven Pac-12 All-Academic awards. Washington is looking to earn its fifth score of 197 or higher this season, which would set a new program record. Washington's four 197s is tied for the current program record, accomplished in 2003 and 2004. The GymDawgs won 25 individual events, led by Hailey Burleson's 16. Those 16 individual wins for Burleson were the most by an individual GymDawgs in over a decade. Burleson set new career highs on bars and all-around this year as well. In all, the GymDawgs set 17 new career highs.
Washington is in the top ten on both beam and floor, sitting at seventh on beam and ninth on floor. Washington had an average score of 49.183 after the regular season. On floor, Washington averaging a regular-season score of 49.242. On both beam and floor, Washington put up season-high scores of 49.475. On beam, Washington accomplished that against UC Davis and Seattle Pacific on March 9, while on floor Washington did so against Boise State and BYU on March 15. That score was highest for an individual event by the GymDawgs since putting up a score of 49.725 on floor on January 7, 2005.
Washington is also 21st in the nation on vault, averaging a regular-season score of 49.025, and 16th on bars, averaging 49.121 in the regular season. Monica Riley leads the way on bars for the GymDawgs, sitting in the nation's top 30 with her RQS score of 9.900. Riley is one of three GymDawgs who finished the season in the top 30 in an individual event: Evanni Roberson's RQS score of 9.900 on beam was good for 24th. Burleson also had an RQS score of 9.900 on beam and her RQS score of 39.435 on all-around was 23rd.
The GymDawgs will be attempting to advance to Super Six, which will take place on Saturday, April 21 at 4:00 pm PT.
