Road Showdown With #3 UCLA Next for Top-Ranked Huskies
April 17, 2018 | Softball
SEATTLE - After finishing up a perfect homestand, the #1 Washington Huskies hit the road to take on the #3 UCLA Bruins this weekend in Los Angeles. Washington will look to extend its 11-game Pac-12 winning streak, the second longest Pac-12 winning streak in program history. Game one of the series will be Friday, April 20 at 5:00 pm. Game two, on Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 pm, will be aired on ESPN2. Game three will be Sunday, April 22 at 3:00 pm.
Last week, Washington earned its fourth consecutive Pac-12 series sweep, winning both games against #23 Cal. Those four series sweeps in conference play are the second-most in Washington history: the only other time the Huskies have recorded more than three sweeps in Pac-12 play was 1996, when they swept five series.
Washington has also matched its best home start in program history at 15-0, a mark also accomplished in 1996. The Huskies have been just as impressive on the road, giving up just 0.78 runs per game while scoring almost eight runs a game. The last time Washington won more games away from Seattle in the regular season than this year's 26 was 2014, when the Huskies went 27-8 on the road.
With the sweep of #23 Cal, Washington is guaranteed a winning season in Pac-12 play for the fourth consecutive year and ninth time in Heather Tarr's tenure.
Washington and UCLA are the top two teams in the Pac-12, with the Huskies holding a half-game lead in the conference standings at 12-2. The Bruins swept Arizona on the road last weekend and have lost just three Pac-12 games: twice to Oregon on the road and once to Stanford at home. The last time the Huskies visited UCLA, Washington won two of three games. Washington has not lost a series at UCLA since 2011.
